SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection contains materials that document Dr. Betty N. Smith’s long career as a musician, an educator, and an author. It includes information about awards Dr. Smith received, as well as specific documentation of aspects of her work. Posters, promotional materials, and recordings offer a window into Betty Smith’s work as a musician. Books, lesson plans, song lyrics, dulcimer tablature, and course outlines speak to her extensive experience as an educator of students from pre-school to senior citizen. The collection also features Betty Smith’s writings in a variety of genres, from song lyrics and poems to academic essays and her book and play about Jane Hicks Gentry.
