GENETICS REFERENCE DATABASES
NATIONAL CENTER FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY INFORMATION (NCBI)
The NCBI homepage provides links to numerous biotechnology and genetics reference databases as well as those that index and abstract the scholarly journal literature covering topics in those disciplines.
ONLINE MENDELIAN INHERITANCE IN MAN (OMIM)
OMIM is a comprehensive, authoritative compendium of human genes and genetic phenotypes that is freely available and updated daily. The full-text, referenced overviews in OMIM contain information on all known mendelian disorders and over 15,000 genes. OMIM focuses on the relationship between phenotype and genotype.
RCSB PROTEIN DATABANK
This resource is powered by the Protein Data Bank archive-information about the 3D shapes of proteins, nucleic acids, and complex assemblies that helps students and researchers understand all aspects of biomedicine and agriculture, from protein synthesis to health and disease.
THE HUMAN PROTEIN ATLAS
The Human Protein Atlas is a Swedish-based program initiated in 2003 with the aim to map all the human proteins in cells, tissues and organs using integration of various omics technologies. It consists of three separate parts, each focusing on a particular aspect of the genome-wide analysis of the human proteins; the Tissue Atlas showing the distribution of the proteins across all major tissues and organs in the human body, the Cell Atlas showing the subcellular localization of proteins in single cells, and finally the Pathology Atlas showing the impact of protein levels for survival of patients with cancer.
