This collection consists of the personal papers of James G.K. McClure, Jr. and other family members, as well as organizational records of the Farmers Federation of Western North Carolina, an organization founded by Mr. McClure in 1920 as the Federation of Farmers of Fairview. The collection also includes papers of the Farmers Federation Educational and Development Fund, begun in 1927 as a fundraising branch of the organization. The collection consists of correspondence and other writings of the family members, as well as annual reports, newspaper clippings, and publications that document the work of the Farmers Federation and the Farmers Federation Educational and Development Fund. Of particular note are the some three thousand photographs taken from the 1930s to the late 1950s that document the lives of farm families in western North Carolina and the work and projects of the Farmers Federation.
