ProQuest Research Companion

ProQuest Research Companion has three main tabs components:

Find Information

  • Three sets of video instruction: "Where do I start?", "How do I choose a topic?" and "where do I find information?"
  • Search Aid Tool - Students submit keywords and Search Aid suggests related and alternate terms. Students can add or delete search terms into their string and perform a search in Summon (our search service that searches across most of our databases)

Evaluate Information

  • Two video modules: "How do I evaluate sources?" and "What counts as evidence?"
  • Source Evaluation Aid Tool - Enter information about a web site, journal, or book and this tool will provide known data about the resource. Includes flags for possible fake news sources.

Use Information

  • Five video instruction modules: "How do I write a thesis statement?", "How do I organize my argument?", "How do I avoid plagiarism and find my own voice?" and "How can I do better next time?"
  • Revision Aid Tool - An algorithm to evaluate the mechanics of student writing. Detects passive constructions, sentences that may be too long for easy reading, words that may be misused, phrases that may be covering up inadequate evidence, poor organization, or a forced transitions.
  • Citation Builder Tool - Generates citations in MLA and APA formats.

All of the instructional videos can be embedded in your Moodle courses.

Just click the "Embed this video" text under the video and copy and paste the generated code in the html editor on your Moodle page. If you'd like a hand, just contact any Wendy, Dane, or Kevin in the library.

Videos also have tracked pre- and post-video assessment questions

However, student have to create an account for this feature to be activated. Results of the assessment questions are reported to the administrative account held by the library. If you are tracking your students' responses, ask the library to retrieve them for you.
