Long-term monitoring of stream health is difficult to achieve without a veritable army of volunteers. However, many of these volunteers lack the scientific expertise of professional researcher. Our study found that with appropriate training, volunteers are statistically identical to professional entomologists when it comes to assessing measures of stream health using insects.
