Ms. Bigger says: The U. S. population is living longer with chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, and more and more healthcare is happening outside institutions and in the home and community. Healthcare providers such as nurses need evidence-based resources to facilitate goals of care conversations, also known as advance care planning, to ensure that unwanted treatment is not being provided. This article reviews current literature and identifies gaps where more research is needed.
